As an avid lover of Mexican food, hitting Vida Cantina in the Epicenter was a no brainer. Allured by the promise of homemade guacamole, fish tacos, and a giant margarita, Vida Cantina was a safe haven in the bustle of Uptown.
If you're trying to beat the Monday blues like I was, I suggest heading to Vida Cantina and checking out their lunch special. Offering a variety of "pick 2" options, you can mix and match for days without getting sick of options. After a margarita and snacking on chips, and gabbing with a few good friends, my Monday blues were cured.
If you're looking for a place to brunch, Vida also offers a special selection on Saturdays and Sundays. Unique menu items such as Smoked Salmon Tacos and Mexican Hot Chocolate make this restaurant both group and family friendly.
Carolina Nightlife will be hosting our Annual Sombrero Bar Crawl starting at Vida on Saturday, May 3rd. Purchase your tickets here:
Tomorrow is such a big day for the city of Charlotte as we get to welcome our beloved Knight's to play right here in Uptown. There is a great view from every seat in the stadium and season tickets are going fast! For those of you who are coming Uptown tomorrow for the game there are some great ways to have fun before it's "one, two, three strikes your out at the old ball game!"
Family - Starting at noon there will be a large celebration at the Romare Bearden Park with the introduction of our Charlotte Knights Team, followed by live music, activities and entertainment all afternoon. Food and Beverage will be available for purchase from some favorite local food trucks.
Happy Hour - Getting off of work and need a quick drink before the game at 7? Vida Mexican Kitchen is offering $3 Tecate, $4 Tequila Shooters, and $5 Margaritas. Not a bad way to start the game! Or head on over to Mortimer's for $3 Bud light bottles and $6 Vodka Redbulls. Can't go wrong with that.
After the game - The party is still going on and it's Friday night! Head on over to Prohibition for some $3 Bud Lights or $5 Absolut flavors, or check out The Tin Roof for some fantastic live music with an outdoor feel.
Charleston Culinary Tours is planning a Fresh at the Farm Dinner Series featuring Executive Chef Stephen Thompson of Prohibition, a new contemporary American gastro pub downtown. Setting the scene for a true farm to table experience, each dinner event will take place at a local farm. The gastronomic evening with start with a cocktail hour and hors d’ oeuvres from 5:30-6:30pm and then family style dinner will be served from 6:30-8:30pm. The first dinner will be held on May 4th at Walters Farm in Saint George with additional dinners in the series in August and November. With a table set for 40 guests, the cost is $75/person with tickets available at www.charlestonculinarytours.com.
Walters Farm is a fitting start to the Fresh at the Farm Dinner series as Chef Thompson and Stephen Walters, proprietor of Walters Farm, have been friends since childhood. Chef Thompson jokingly refers to Steven as “his personal farmer”. Steven Walters personally grows and harvests everything on his 5-acre farm and then makes the 45-minute drive to deliver it to Chef Thompson. Both are excited about allowing guests to dine on ingredients right where they are produced, fortifying the connection between farm and food.
Charleston Culinary Tours combine the best of Charleston history, cocktails and food with unique tours that highlight the Lowcountry. The food and drinks on the tours are chosen by various restaurant and bar partners and feature an array of eclectic dishes and concoctions that provide insight into Charleston’s cuisine and cocktail scene. On each tour, guests will not only have an opportunity to sample some of the Lowcountry’s finest offerings, but also to meet the owners, chefs and mixologists behind Charleston’s impressive culinary and bar innovations.
